The online market is stuffed with flashing ads and they all claim to be selling the best coon and varmint hunting lights. They all usually sell what’s best for their pockets. Going through a buy and test process (read: pain) myself, I’ve decided to write down my experience in hope that it will save some time and nerves to someone.

So if you stay with me until the end of this article I promise to teach you how to pick the night hunting light for your needs.

1. Orion Predator H30 – Best Choice For The Money

Orion predator H30This is the best coon hunting light I’ve tested so far (and I’ve tested a lot of them!) and I’ve heard many hunters stating the same.

This military-grade flashlight with the latest Cree XP-E2 LED emits focused red or green light up to 273 yards. It is great because most of the animals are not sensitive to it and it is handy with targeting when animal eyes are reflecting red or green.

The kit includes three mount options (barrel, rail, and scope mount) and also a charger along with a rechargeable battery, although you can use two CR123 and CR123A batteries.

Adaptive brightness (300, 190, 50 and 6 lumens) and durable battery with up to 120 hours add even more charm to this useful coon hunting gear.

Lightweight, water and impact-proof, this is absolutely the best coon hunting light you can get for this price range.

Additionally, including accessories that are included in the package with those of other manufacturers, you’ll see that this one is an absolute winner.

Pros
  • Very strong light
  • Multiple power settings
  • Very sturdy build
  • Easy to work with
Cons
  • The pressure switch is hard to work with

2. Streamlight 69227 TLR-1 Game Spotter Led Coon Hunting Light

Streamlight 69227 TLR-1 Game SpotterWhen it comes to led lights, this one is also worth mentioning close to the top of the list. It is in a similar price range as Orion H30.

Although I prefer H30 to this one, this piece of hunting gear is also a good choice. With the intensity of 150 lumens, its shock-proof C4 LED emits green light up to 350 m.

Trust me, simple one-handed snap-on and tightening control will simplify your life. The battery mechanism is made for easy battery replacement but keeps the battery door safe in place which is also nice.

This led light is waterproof to the depth of one meter and up to 30 minutes. The light is powered by 2 CR123A batteries which are included in the package, as well as rail locating keys for mounting on the variety of rails.

Its deep-dish parabolic reflector will give you an intense hot-spot with long-range identification but won’t spook your prey.

Although it comes with a limited lifetime warranty and has almost everything you may need, there is one weak spot on this led spotter light – its battery life is only 1.75 hours.

But this isn’t a downside when you wear a spare pair of batteries with you. There are better-LED lights out there, but not many.

Pros
  • Waterproof
  • Easy to use and setup
  • Strong beam
Cons
  • Battery lifespan is pretty short

3. Streamlight 44911 Waypoint Spotlight – Extremely bright

Brightest lightShock-proof, C4 LED light with over 50,000 hour lifetime is one of the brightest coon hunting lights on the list and takes us back to the middle price range.

It is made of unbreakable polycarbonate with a protective rubber ring around the lens.

Cushioned grip handle with a handy trigger-style switch makes this tool one of the best choices out there among handheld hunting lights.

This LED spotlight operates at three modes:

  • The high mode will shine with 1,000 lumens as far as up to 678 meters, up to 3 hours long.
  • The medium mode will give you up to 490 meters long beam of 550 lumens and can serve you up to 6 hours.
  • Low mode is somewhat »really low« at 35 lumens, stretching beam far up to 200 meters, but up to 80 hours long.

It comes with 120 AC charger in the package. The downside: It’s one of those handheld hunting spotlights with hands-free stand and it can’t be mounted on anything.

I have difficulty using this one since it needs to be held in hand but I had to mention it since it is one of the brightest raccoon hunting lights I’ve come across.

It serves a great purpose in all other uses where you need extraordinarily bright light with a super long beam.
Pros
  • Can be charged or powered by a 12V cord
  • Wall mount holder included
  • Fills comfortable in the hand
  • Low glare off foreground objects
Cons
  • Not fully waterproof, just splash resistant

4. LED coon hunting light Kohree XPG

LED light XPGKohree XPG is one of the best cheap night hunting lights. With quality Cree light, this durable headlamp is not only suitable for hunting but also for many other uses like coal mining, auto repairs or marine adventures.

Water, impact and dustproof, lightweight and small, this super bright gadget has 3 modes of operating and may stay up to 35 hours of work and fun.

Ranging up to 150 meters of an effective beam, this charming little light also comes with 4 different filters: red, blue, green and yellow, which gives you the option to choose the best for your use.

Wide-angle of light is not the advantage I’ll mention here.

Kohree XPG comes with home, car and USB chargers, a headband and 4 optical filters included in the package.

Quite a kit for this price range. The downside: It can only be used as a headlamp and can’t be mounted on guns. I found this light one of the best among cheap hunting lights.

Pros
  • Waterproof
  • Reasonable sturdy
  • Good performance
  • Multiple brightness settings
Cons
  • A bit awkward to carry around
  • Not very bright on low settings

5. LED Flashlight Orion M30C

LED Light Orion M30CAnother good choice by Orion is its M30C with three Cree XP-E2 super-bright 700 Lumen LED coon light coming in red and green variants.

Magnificent 377-yard long-range flashlight with adaptive brightness comes with the scope, rail and barrel mounts.

Rechargeable batteries and dual smart charger with car adapter also included in the package will have you ready for any game.

It has 3 levels of brightness: 700 lumens (batteries up to somewhat less than 2 hours), 400 lumens with batteries up to 3.5 hours and 75 lumens with batteries up even to 22 hours.

With push-button and remote pressure switches, this handy baby will keep you covered with even most demanding hunting games.

It’s lightweight and waterproof, which is like cherries on top of the cake.

If you buy both red and green LEDs, then you get a maximum of these already premium raccoon hunting lights. If it wasn’t for its higher price than Orion H30, then these would surely be my favorite.

Pros
  • Easy to work with
  • Lightweight
  • Long lifespan of the battery
  • Smart charger
Cons
  • You can’t adjust the beam angle

6. Kill Light XLR250 LED “Pro Package”

XLR250 led lightsThis led flashlight can be mounted on your barrel or scope and it comes in 3 variations of bright colors: red, white and green.

It comes with a flashlight cap and handy corded tail cap with an on/off switch.

Two packs of 10-year lifetime lithium batteries and dual station charger are also included in the package.

One charging of approximately 6 hours will give you enough power for a full night of hunting.

XLR in its name is short for »Xtra Long Range« which is decent 250 yards of effective range. But in reality, it is even more (up to 300 yards), which is much better than most LED flashlights can do.

It comes with a scope mounting bracket with two extra rails and standard barrel attachment. Lightweight and handy, XLR250 can be useful when you need an ordinary flashlight too.

The downside is a somewhat bigger price than most of the LED flashlights on this list, but this is a good bargain for any proper hunter.

Pros
  • Comes with a lot of accessories
  • Very bright
  • 250-yard range
Cons
  • Battery charges for a long time
  • On/off switch switches too easy

7. Foxelli USB Rechargeable Coon Hunting Headlights

Night hunting headlightsCoon hunting headlights with red light options make you much more stealthy since the animals notice it harder.

They also don’t disturb your night vision so you are not blinded when you turn them off.

This Foxelli rechargeable light has a wide variety of light modes, including high, low and strobe white light and regular and SOS red light.

Its 180-lumen beam reaches 300 feet and you can tilt the angle of the light for 45 degrees.

Foxelli coon hunting headlights are extremely durable and waterproof, so you don’t have to worry about them being damaged by the weather and water.

Rechargeable batteries can last up to 40 hours and you can charge them in your home or car, making the lamp great for hunting, camping or hiking.

The easily adjustable and lightweight headband will help you move around comfortably and spot the pray effortlessly.

Even though it may not be the strongest light, you still get a great deal regarding its price.

Foxelli will have you covered with a 120-day money-back guarantee as well as with one-year warranty so you can buy the lamp with confidence.

Pros
  • Affordable
  • Durable and waterproof
  • Variety of light modes
  • Rechargeable
Cons
  • Not very strong

8. Boruit Hunting Headlamp With Red Light

NIGHT Hunting headlampCoon hunting headlamp is usually much more practical than a regular lamp since it leaves your hands free and the light follows your eyes.

The Boruit LED headlamp offers a combination of one main XML-T6 white LED and two additional XR-E R2 red lights. The lamp is great for camping, hiking, cycling, climbing and especially coon hunting.

While the red light draws less attention and makes you harder to notice, the white one comes with two brightness choices, high and medium (max 3000 lumens).

You can also rotate the head of the lamp and adjust the angle for up to 180 degrees. The lamp is secured with a comfortable two-strap system so you can even wear it over a helmet or a hat.

The batteries on this Boruit LED headlamp are rechargeable and you will get a wall, car and USB charger as well as with two rechargeable batteries.

Just like any other Boruit product, this red light coon hunting headlamp comes with a one-year warranty.

Pros
  • Strong brightness
  • Convenient red lights included
  • Multiple charging options
  • Long-lasting rechargeable batteries
Cons
  • Not water resistant

Important things to know before buying coon lights

Buying night hunting lights can be a tricky task, but I beg you – don’t let the price dictates your choice. It is extremely important for your safety and safety of others to buy reliable, durable and hands-free coon lights with long battery life.

But basically, it all depends on your hunting style and needs – whether you want scope mounted lights, a headlamp, handheld lights or one of those hybrid flashlights.

I think buying a hybrid flashlight is probably the best choice. It gives you many options although they are somewhat bulkier than the other types.

This is also one of the reasons I adore this model because it is an all-in-one kit.

If you are wondering whether you need a green or red light, I’ll try to give you some clarification to help you decide.

Green light can be seen farther and the human eye sees more details with it and this is the reason why night-vision gear uses mostly green light.

The downside is that some of the animals are easy to spook with it. On the contrary, the red light can even have a calming effect on animals and puts the least stress on your eyes, which will allow you to hunt longer at night. That’s why it is the choice of hunters more often than the green light.

And one more thing

By exchanging stories with many hunters and from my own experience, I have concluded that, if you are not sure what type of lights you actually need/want, online shopping might be the way to go.

It’s easier to find a good model when you can compare all of them at the same time. Plus you can check what other buyers have to say about them, so don’t forget to check comments.

That’s why I often use Amazon for buying almost anything. With Amazon, you can sit in the comfort of your home and compare the prices of similar lights.

Plus you have a plethora of user reviews right on your plate. Additionally, it is a hassle-free buying experience. You order it with a few clicks and it is shipped right to your doorstep.

Conclusion

There are some things that are totally matters of taste and preference when it comes to hunting lights, but the quality is a fact. That’s why I put Orion H30 on the top of my list. It is a hybrid type, light-weight, reliable and durable.

It does an excellent job whether you’re a beginner or an experienced wolf. To put it in other words, you’ll get the best value for that price range, if not at all. I personally prefer its red variant but this depends on your needs and hunting practices.

If you’re still not sure which coon hunting lights are the best for you after reading this article, I recommend comparing the prices and pros and cons of quality hunting lights on Amazon, where you’ll gain the best insights.

But that works if you have time to do so. Otherwise, you won’t make a mistake with any of the lights I’ve mentioned above. I hope I helped and I wish you a safe and rewarding hunt!
