Coyote huntingI’ll help you find the best spotlight for coyote hunting, which will help you see clearly even during the darkest nights.

By the time you finish reading this article, you’ll learn which color of lights performs best for coyote and other varmint hunting and where you can get very good deals on them.

Before you check which top 3 coyote hunting lights I found, let’s find out what type of lights for night hunting perform best.

What color light is best for coyote hunting?

When searching for hunting light, we need to know what color of light is best for coyote hunting.

I have tried a number of lights used for hunting at night, and I found that “Red Light” seems to work best.

The reason as to why I prefer red light for coyote hunting is because:

  • It affects the least and animals respond to calls.
  • It can pass through intense moisture better than any other colors.
  • Red light is strong enough to penetrate through thick bushes and give you a better sight.
  • While scanning, this light reflects more visibly from the coyote’s eyes making it easier to spot.

Green light can also be used, but it is best to avoid it unless you have no other option. Green lights get absorbed by the natural white light in case of brighter nights.

Coyotes are known to have a keen eye, and hence blue light should be totally eliminated while hunting. Blue lights or blue clothing can be spotted by them from far.

Choosing a hunting spotlight can be stressful. There are a plethora of spotlights available in the market that claims to be the best. But one can only say that once they have tried it out.

I tested a total of 11 hunting spotlights for this test and have picked three spotlights that performed the best. These three were chosen based on their battery life, ease of use, power, zooming capacity, control features and so on.

The performance of these three spotlights was so good that they were totally worth my time and money.

Gearing yourself with any of these models can help you bag quite a few coyotes every time you hunt.

1. Predator tactics Coyote Reaper XXL

What are the basic features every good coyote hunting light need to have? Build need to be strong and sturdy, long battery life, and bright long distance beam. And Predator tactics Coyote Reaper XXL has all that.

This is the strongest and most powerful spotlight for coyote hunting I had the chance to try. It has the longest beam distance, which can easily reach up to 700 yards.

While you can’t always clearly see the animal at 700 yards, you can spot eye reflection without a problem. However, you’ll need to adjust focus to see that far.

Battery held up to 5h, but I wasn’t using it at full power, but that is still pretty good for so powerful spotlight. I would still suggest you pack additional batteries just in case.

Housing is very well made and surprisingly light considering its size. You also won’t have to worry about hunting in the rains since it’s waterproof.

Contents in the packet:

  • Up to 700 yards of beam throw
  • Waterproof Design
  • Adjustable Focus
  • Interchangeable LED Bulb Modules
  • Rechargeable
  • Intensity Control
As you probably guess by now, this is the best spotlight for coyote hunting by mine opinion. The price might be a bit higher from the rest of the models, but not enough to be a deal breaker.
Pros
  • Visability up to 700 yards
  • Well made
  • Interchangeable LED bulb
  • Adjustable focus
  • Extended battery life
Cons
  • Adjustable rail mount doesn’t have much “adjustability”
  • Price is a bit high

2. Wicked Lights W403iC

This spotlight is almost as good as my first choice – the Predator Tactics Coyote Reaper. While it’s lacking in some of the departments, it’s still pretty good night hunting light.

You can choose between 3 options, kit with green or red light, or package with both lights. I choose just a red light option since I don’t have any use for a green one.

It has great beam distance up to 300 yards and you’ll be able to see eye reflection even up to 500 yards. Light comes with a zoom that allows you to focus and or defuse the light beam.

Wicked Lights W403iC

Battery life is pretty good. One pair of rechargeable batteries (included in the package) was enough for up to 4 hours. With additional back up pair, I had more than enough for the whole night.

What I really like about this model, is that housing strong and lightweight at the same time. Housing is made out of T6 aircraft grade aluminum with type III anodization.

Package contains:

  • 1x LED red light
  • Battery charger
  • Remote intensity control coil cord tail cap
  • 2x rechargeable batteries
  • Adjustable scope mount.
  • Quick detach adjustable windage and elevation mount kit
  • Premium carry case

The downside is that it comes with a higher price tag and I would prefer a warranty to be longer than 3 years.

Pros
  • Adjustable scope mount
  • Extremely bright
  • Multi-color beam
  • Solid battery life
  • Well build
Cons
  • A bit expensive
  • A bit short warranty

3. Wicked Lights ScanPro iC Red Headlight

For those of you that prefer headlamps, this is the best headlamp for coyote hunting. I’m generally not a fan of headlamps, but this one changed my mind.

My most common complaint about headlamps is their fit. I can never get them fit to feel comfortable ad they always irritate me.

However, I was quite surprised by this one. I could easily fit and wear for a long time without feeling uncomfortable. And thanks go to the design, it’s really designed to be worn for a long time.

Wicked Lights ScanPro iC Red

Although it use same LED lights as W403iC, the beam has a bit shorter visibility because of halo shield. However, it can still reach 400-450 yards.

Zoom focus bezel can be used to control the width of the beam from spot to flood. Quality is a good as it’s expected from Wicked Lights.

Contents in the packet:

  • 1 Red LED headlamp
  • 2 Li-Ion rechargeable batteries
  • Battery charger,
  • A rubber halo shield
  • 1 Premium Carry Case
  • 1 x 2-Position Charger with A/C and DC charge adapter.

Overall, this is a great product. If you prefer headlamp over handheld or scope mounted spotlight, this is a good purchase.

Pros
  • Comfortable and easy to fit headband
  • T6 Aircraft grade aluminum housing
  • Easy intensity control
  • Battery life is quite good
Cons
  • Quite expensive for a headlamp
