  • Reputable outdoor boot brand
  • Premium boot construction
Let’s make one thing clear, every hunting boot I’ll describe here was personally tried and worn for at least a month or so. I’ve also spoken with many hunters and hikers while doing my research to find the best snake bite proof boots for myself.

I hope sharing my reviews will help someone make a good choice and I’ll be happy if you share this article with anyone who finds it useful.

I’m sure there are awesome premium boots priced over several hundreds of dollars out there, but models below are really quality footwear, so there is no need to spend more to get perfect protection – unless you really want to do so.

1. Irish Setter 2875 Vaprtrek – Best Snake Boots

Best snake proof bootsIrish Setter 2875 Vaprtrek with 17 inches long shafts are definitely the best snake boots I’ve ever tried and there are several reasons for that.

Made from full-grain brown leather and synthetic materials these lightweight snake proof boots are super comfortable thinking to RPM technology which gives durability and comfort without the extra weight.

The ultradry waterproofing system is amazing so you’ll really have to try hard to make your feet wet or let in any moisture.

They have Snake Guard construction so fangs, thorns and any other bothers won’t be able to penetrate the upper part of the boot.

ScentBan technology kills any un-pleasurable odors for good feeling inside and outside is taken care of with ArmaTec abrasion-resistant protective cover.
Pros
  • 17 inches long shaft
  • Offers a lot of features
  • Odor-free boot
  • Waterproof
  • Lightweight
  • Good fit also for men with big calves
  • Comes in female sizes too
Cons
  • The shaft is maybe not the longest possible, but unless you’re not a giant, 17 inches will serve you very well

2. Muck Boots Pursuit SnakeProof Boots

Muck snake proof bootsWith exterior solely made from rubber and fully-waterproof, Muck boots Pursuit are also cool to wear in the hot weather thanks to XpressCool fabric lining inside.

Anti-friction sock liner helps to prevent slipperily and keeps your feet comfortably in place.

Additionally, EVA midsole is responsible for soft steps with minimum shock to the feet because of the rubber outsole pods for better cushioning.

4 mm neoprene lining makes these snake proof boots fine to wear down to even -40 degrees.

Generally, Muck boots serve as a reliable name when it comes to performance and comfort. These would definitely be my favorite if I didn’t discover the model below.
Pros
  • Durability
  • Temperature proof down to -40 degrees
  • Fully waterproof
  • Secure fit
  • Added comfort
Cons
  • They are somewhat difficult to take off

3. Pronghorn Danner Snake Proof Boots

Danner snake bootsMade from brown leather with rubber soles, with somewhat over 15 inches long shaft, Danner hunting boots also offer 360-degree snake bite protection and fit into a lightweight category.

That’s why you’ll hear many hunters are interested in finding Danner snake boots and other products designed by this company.

These fall into a higher price range than previous models that I’ve mentioned, so you may want to search the online market to compare prices to find the best offer.

Waterproof and made with full-grain leather, Danner’s Pronghorn will definitely be the snake-proof boots worth its price.

What kept bugging me may not bug you since it depends on the shape of your feet – they are not super comfortable to wear during long walks.
Pros
  • Lightweight
  • Durable strong design
  • Solid traction
  • Strong leg support
  • Many useful features
Cons
  • Not so comfortable
  • A bit pricy

4. Rocky Prolight Cheap Snake Boots

Rocky Snake Proof BootsMade from full-grain brown leather and durable nylon, with 16 inches long shaft, Rocky snake boots are also a solid choice in the medium price range.

Prolight BioMech outsole gives them excellent traction on any kind of surface.

Plus, latest Rocky snake boots have one additional feature that previous two models don’t – they have a waterproof layer that covers the entire boot, length and height wise.

Additionally, they feel super light and are pretty practical for hiking routes too.

They might be cheap snake boots, but they definitely don’t feel like one.
Pros
  • Fully waterproof
  • Excellent traction
  • Super comfortable
  • Durable flexible sole
  • Strong rugged design
  • Very safe boot
Cons
  • Sag easily if you don’t lace them tight

5. Venom Scent APG HD LaCrosse Snake Boots

LaCrosse Snake BootsAnother good choice from LaCrosse is snake boot with a somewhat longer shaft than the previous model (around 18 inches). This model also offers 360-degree snake bite protection, but on a somewhat more serious level.

Made from leather and fabric, with rubber, inch thick soles, these snake proof boots also have a thankful lining inside in case of extensive wear during hot weather and will also keep you dry during hunting in wet conditions.

Internal materials fight smell producing bacteria, so there’s no danger from passing out when you get them off either.

Seriously, these snake proof boots were designed to protect legs and be comfortable. I ended up wearing them all day and I expected at least some of the smell but got a nice surprise when I finally took them off.
Pros
  • 18” long shaft
  • Reinforced toe cap
  • Bacteria-free lining
  • Super dry
  • Comfortable boot
  • Adjustable straps
Cons
  • Somewhat higher price

6. 4X Alpha LaCrosse Snake Boots

Alpha LaCrosse Snake BootsEvery 4X Alpha snake boot is made of a combination of rubber and neoprene.

Waterproof and around 16 inches long shaft with four layers cushioning on the soles, these boots offer 360-degree protection.

Adjustable fit with straps and rubber soles make these snake proof boots a solid choice for hunting, work or home use. A contoured ankle secures the perfect fit for longer wear and prevents slipping.

Popularly called Quad-Core, 4X Alpha is comfortable to wear in any condition, on any surface and also provides solid protection against cold weather.

Not my best snake proof boots choice but surely tough and affordable boots.
Pros
  • 4 layer sole cushions
  • Rugged straps
  • Ankle fit for heel lock against slipping
  • Comfortable for walking an extensive period of time
  • Affordable
Cons
  • No half sizes

7. Wood N’ Stream Men’s 17” Snake Protection Boots

Snake protection bootsWood N’ Stream has provided us with great boots that are easy to pull on and off. You don’t have to bother with laces, but you will still get a tight and comfortable fit.

This brand of footwear has been popular in the sports industry for decades now and everything they make is high-quality and durable, including these pull-on snake boots.

You just pull on these 17” snake protection boots and enjoy your time outside without having to worry about bumping into a snake.

The design makes them look nice both over and under the pants with a sleek combination of camouflage and brown leather.

Not only they are completely snake resistant, but Wood N’ Stream boots also allow your feet to breathe freely, preventing foot odor.

You will get great and comfortable protection without having to bother with laces.

Pros
  • Easy to put on
  • Sleek design
  • Designed to provide comfort
  • Breathable material
  • Slip-resistant flexible sole for safe walking
Cons
  • Not for steep terrain

8. Adder 18” Snake Bite Proof Boots

Snake bite proof bootsThere are no snake bite proof boots that are easier to pull on or off than the LaCrosse 18” Adder model.

Made from high quality (like all products by this company) and great-looking leather, they provide great protection against snakes and allow you to hike or hunt peacefully.

Having no laces, every Adder 18” boot has two grabbing holes so you can pull them on easier.

However, you don’t have to worry about them being loose as you can tighten them with a neat strap behind the calf. The unique materials also let your feet breathe without letting any moisture in.

They can be a bit too hot in warm weather conditions, but they are still comfortable enough. There are few hunting boots more practical than these.
Pros
  • Easy to pull on
  • High-quality leather
  • Cover large area
  • Designed for comfort
  • Premium safety
Cons
  • Partly waterproof

Do you really need snake-proof boots?

Do you like to spend time in nature? Then the answer is definitely yes! When it comes to hunting, hiking and other activities in nature, many people underestimate the importance of a good pair of snake proof boots.

The lack of care can result in heavy consequences even in areas that are not famous for venomous snakes.

You see, the natural habitat of snakes is warmer areas and there are no other specifical details about areas where you could say there are no snakes, except the polar circle.

You may find them in areas covered with tall grass, rocky terrain, near water or in the desserts. They often lurk hidden to the eyes of the hiker or the hunter and may surprise you when you least expect it.

Naturally, snakes don’t attack or bite unless they are threatened or they think you’re prey. But once you step into their habitat, you’re the danger to them. As a result, the threat of snakebite is always present, no matter how careful you think you are.

Do Snake Boots Work?

Every time I mention them, people tend to ask me do snake boots work that much better than the regular hiking boots. Even though they cost a bit more, my answer is always “yes” and I want to make it clear why it is so important to have snakebite proof boots.

I must mention that snake protection boots are not an absolute 100% protection. They do work 99% of the time, which is much more than with ordinary boots.

Getting bitten by a snake is not fun at all, even with the antidote, especially when you are hiking remote places.

Do Snake Boots WorkInvesting in a proper pair of snakebite proof boots can be a matter of life and death, without exaggeration.

There is a lot of confusing information on do snake boots work better than the regular ones and not all anti-snakebite boots are the same.

I want to show you what exactly makes these boots so efficient and how to pick the best pair possible for your needs.

How do Snake Boots Work?

Snake protectionTo realize how do snake boots work, you need to understand where and how do snakes attack the most. They usually attack when surprised or cornered and strike the foot or the lower leg. Everything beneath the knee in general.

You should research what types of snakes dwell in the area, but boots up to 16 to 18 inches will be enough to keep you safe. You can get some higher boots or chaps if you really need additional protection.

Another huge factor is the material of the boots. Some of the most common materials used in these type of boots are:

  • Kevlar
  • Denim
  • Leather
  • Synthetic

The trick with some of these materials is that they are tightly woven and prevent snake fangs from reaching your skin. Some of them are just tough enough to be impenetrable by snake teeth.

Make sure to read the specifications of the boots you are interested in and check if they are using the right size and materials. Otherwise, you might as well use ordinary boots.

How Important is Design to Make Them Effective?

SnakeYou may not think that the design of the boots is important when it comes to snakebite protection. However, the design is one of the most important factors why snake boots work.

First, the boots need to go all the way to your knees as most of the snakes will aim for the calf and shin area. They generally attack from below, either when you corner them or step on them.

If your boots make noise and have a heavy step that’s a plus too. You probably know that snakes never go to attack you, but do it out of self-defense when they feel they have no way to go.

Your snake protection boots should also be a bit loose around your legs. If the snake accidentally penetrates them, it will not reach your skin.
Great boot design will make your hiking or hunting trips much more enjoyable and can save your life too.

Are Snake Boots Worth it?

Snake proof potectionLet’s face it, the main reasons people don’t get snakebite proof boots because they don’t know are snake boots worth it. There is a lot of disagreement in the hunting and hiking circles, but I have no doubts about it.

Many people argue that there is no need to spend that much money on special boots. Their main argument is that regular hiking or hunting boots are good enough to keep you safe.

However, you shouldn’t cheap out on things as important as this. You don’t want to get bitten by a venomous snake just because you settled for boots that are good enough.

When you go hunting or hiking you need a pair of boots anyway. You should spend some few dollars to make sure you are safe and enjoy your time in the nature worry-free.

Snake Proof Boots Buyer’s Guide

Having so much choice can be both a blessing and a curse as it can be hard to know how to pick the best boots for snake protection. Snake boots come in many sizes, materials, and designs and on top of that, you have to choose the proper accessories too.

It depends a lot on the area too. A regular hunter in an area rich with snakes doesn’t need the same boots as the occasional hunter that rarely sees a snake.

  1. The price: This can also vary a lot, but a good pair of snake protection boots usually go between $100 and $300. The more expensive pair the better they are, but not necessarily.
  2. Climate: Make sure to get warm and comfortable boots if you hike snowy mountains and deep waterproof boots for swamps.
  3. Weight: Consider how long and how fast will you walk. Usually heavier boots are safer, but you’ll need to find the right balance for you.

Where To Buy Snake Proof Boots?

I’m sure you can find most of these boots and shoes in any better-equipped shop with hunting and hiking or camping tools.

However, several people noticed that the prices may be somewhat higher in local shops. However, there is a simple solution.

I prefer buying them online, especially Amazon because there is great competition between sellers and you can actually compare different products and prices without even going out.

Since we’re talking about boots and shoes, you’d probably want to try them out before buying them. However, you can’t really do that with Amazon, but I’ve solved that problem with trying them out in shops and buying them on Amazon.

So my recommendation is – in case you don’t believe me, head to Amazon yourself and check the ratings and prices yourself. You’ll see that, when it comes to a good pair of snake proof boots, my choice is fully justified.

F.A.Q.

Q: How effective are snake-proof boots?

A: They are very effective. While nothing can truly work 100% of the time, a proper pair of boots will protect you in almost any situation.

Q: How can I dry them if they get wet?

A: There are several options to choose from. You can check our guide on how to dry boots quickly here or skip to our list of recommended boot dryers.

Hi Joseph. Muck Boots Pursuit are very good and come just above your price range. You could get cheaper boots too, but those won’t have a long lifespan and in the end, might cost you more than these.

Hi Nick. Leather boots itself are not snake proof. If they are not labeled as snake proof, they are usually not. However, generally speaking, thick leather boots do offer good protection.
